TSA and AFGE Reach New Collective Bargaining Agreement

Source: TSA TSA has reached a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), which will take effect on May 24. The new agreement will provide benefits for all TSA bargaining unit employees comprised of non-supervisory screening officers. AFGE approved the agreement through the ratification process followed by Agency Head Approval and reflects the expanded scope of bargaining permitted under the 2022 Determination on Transportation Security Officers and Collective Bargaining. Airlines for America (A4A) predicts record-setting summer travel season for US airlines

US DOT fines Mexico’s Volaris US$300,000 for unlawfully keeping hundreds of passengers on the tarmac for hours

Source: US DOT The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) today fined Volaris Airlines $300,000 for violating federal statutes and the Department’s rule prohibiting tarmac delays of four hours or more on international flights without providing passengers an opportunity to deplane. Colombia, Chile, Peru and Brazil drive regional aviation growth in the first quarter of 2024

US Air Travel Consumer Report: February 2024 Numbers

Source: US DOT The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) today released its Air Travel Consumer Report (ATCR) on airline operational data compiled for the month of February 2024 for on-time performance, mishandled baggage, and mishandled wheelchairs and scooters. The ATCR is designed to assist consumers with information on the quality of services provided by airlines. For February 2024, 0.6% of flights were cancelled, far lower than the 1.8% cancellation rate for February 2023 and the 3.2% cancellation rate for pre-pandemic February 2019.   DOT expects that airlines will operate flights as scheduled and that when they do not, airlines will provide consumers the services promised when a flight is cancelled or delayed because of an airline issue. U.S. Cargo and Passenger Airlines Gained 2,207 Jobs in March 2024

Source: US DOT U.S. Airline Total Number of Employees (both Full-Time and Part-Time) U.S. airline industry (passenger and cargo airlines combined) employment increased to 800,259 workers in March 2024, 2,207 (0.28%) more workers than in February 2024 (798,052). U.S. scheduled-service passenger airlines employed 541,150 workers in March 2024 or 68% of the industry-wide total. Passenger airlines gained 2,043 employees in December 2023. Delta Air Lines led scheduled passenger carriers, adding 845 employees; United Air Lines added 511, and SkyWest added 210. U.S. cargo airlines employed 254,495 workers in March 2024, 32% of the industry total. Cargo carriers gained 268 employees in March. EASA launches second release of Innovative Air Mobility Hub
