TIACA Announces the 5th Sustainability Award Finalists for the Start-up/Small Business Category

Source: TIACA The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) announced the results of the fifth edition of the Air Cargo Sustainability Awards, run in partnership with one of the leading industry IT solution providers CHAMP Cargosystems.  The Awards aim to recognize outstanding businesses and industry initiatives seeking to make air cargo more sustainable.  There were two categories being judged, one for Start-Up/Small Business and the second for Corporate and established businesses. September Passenger Demand Provides Solid End to Third Quarter

Source: IATA The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that the strong post-pandemic passenger traffic trend continued in September. Total traffic in September 2023 (measured in revenue passenger kilometers or RPKs) rose 30.1% compared to September 2022. Globally, traffic is now at 97.3% of pre-COVID levels. Domestic traffic hit a new high for the month of September, as traffic rose 28.3% versus September 2022 and exceeded the September 2019 level by 5.0%. International traffic climbed 31.2% compared to the same month a year ago. All markets saw double-digit percentage gains year on year. The largest and most important airport industry conference in Latin America and the Caribbean ends with an appeal to governments to fully liberalise air transport

ACI-LAC awards airports for good environmental practices and innovative design for terminal accessibility

Junrong Liang appointed President of the ICAO Air Navigation Commission

Source: ICAO The Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has appointed Mr. Junrong Liang to a one-year term as President of the ICAO Air Navigation Commission (ANC). The Commission develops international aviation Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) and Procedures for Air Navigation Services (PANS) for the Council’s adoption or approval. It is comprised of 19 independent commissioners appointed for their technical expertise in civil aviation. Mr. Liang’s mandate begins on 1 January 2024. FAA Schedules Next Series of Runway Safety Meetings

Source: FAA The Federal Aviation Administration continues to address runway safety risks with 16 runway safety meetings for the remainder of the year. These meetings are in addition to the 90 Runway Safety Action Team meetings across the country already held.  The meetings, held annually at each airport with a control tower, are the primary forum for pinpointing and addressing airport-specific risk in the surface environment. The product of the meeting is a Runway Safety Action Plan where stakeholders agree to pursue specific actions to improve surface safety. Latin America and the Caribbean is the first region in the world to surpass pre-pandemic air traffic levels in 2023

Source: ACI-LAC By 2024, the trend is for a 10.5% increase over 2019; the data was announced during the ACI-LAC Annual Assembly Conference & Exhibition The volume of air passengers in Latin America and the Caribbean is expected to reach 708 million by the end of 2023, 3% more than in 2019. It was the region that showed the fastest recovery after the pandemic and the one that first surpasses the 2019 air traffic volume.  Fifty-five percent of the region's airports have already exceeded 2019 air traffic. U.S. Airlines’ September 2023 Fuel Cost per Gallon Up 11.4% from August 2023; Aviation Fuel Consumption Up 2.8% from Pre-Pandemic September 2019

Source: US DOT The Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) today released U.S. airlines’ September 2023 fuel cost and consumption numbers indicating U.S. scheduled service airlines used 1.518 billion gallons of fuel, 9.2% less fuel than in August 2023 (1.672 billion gallons) and 2.8% more than in pre-pandemic September 2019. The cost per gallon of fuel in September 2023 ($3.14) was up 32 cents (11.4%) from August 2023 ($2.82) and up $1.19 (60.6%) from September 2019. Total September 2023 fuel expenditure ($4.77B) was up 1.1% from August 2023 ($4.72B) and up 65.1% from pre-pandemic September 2019. The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) announced that the 4th Annual Air Cargo Sustainability Survey has been launched.
