FSF Global Safety Report Highlights Runway Safety, Turbulence Risks

Source: FSF Turbulence, runway excursions and ground damage were the most common accident types among airliners operating globally in passenger and cargo service in 2022, according to Flight Safety Foundation’s 2022 Safety Report. The report, released today, is based on an analysis of preliminary accident data and information contained in the Foundation’s Aviation Safety Network (ASN) global database. In releasing the report, the Foundation also launched a new, interactive dashboard featuring accident data and information from the past six years that is searchable by a range of parameters, such as type of operation, region of the world, phase of flight, and accident type or end state, such as turbulence, loss of control or controlled flight into terrain. ICAO issues call for Advanced Air Mobility infrastructure and global harmonization solutions

Source: ICAO ICAO has issued a new request for information (RFI) to public and private-sector innovators in support of its upcoming 2023 DRONE ENABLE Symposium. Minister of Transport announces additional funding for the Canadian Transportation Agency to help clear the backlog of air passenger complaints

U.S. Cargo and Passenger Airlines Added 3,093 Jobs in January 2023; Employment Remains 7.8% Above Pre-Pandemic January 2019

Source: US DOT U.S. Airline Employees Headcount (Full-time and Part-time Employees) U.S. airline industry (passenger and cargo airlines combined) employment increased to 787,328 workers in January 2023, 3,093 (0.39%) more workers than in December 2022 (784,235) and 56,944 (7.80%) more than in pre-pandemic January 2019 (730,384). U.S. scheduled-service passenger airlines employed 503,754 workers in January 2023 or 64% of the industry-wide total. Passenger airlines added 4,583 employees in January 2023 for a twenty-first consecutive month of job growth dating back to May 2021. Safety, sustainability, and resilience focus for Council President’s European activities
