U.S. Air Travel Consumer Report: October 2024 Numbers

Source: US DOT The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) today released its Air Travel Consumer Report (ATCR) on airline operational data compiled for the month of October 2024 on-time performance, mishandled baggage, and mishandled wheelchairs and scooters. The ATCR is designed to assist consumers with information on the quality of services provided by airlines. For October 2024, 1.0% of flights were cancelled, higher than the 0.3% cancellation rate for October 2023. DOT expects that airlines will operate flights as scheduled. DOT's Office of Aviation Consumer Protection (OACP) routinely monitors airlines' operations to ensure that airlines are not engaging in unrealistic scheduling of flights. TSA intercepts 6,678 firearms at airport security checkpoints in 2024

Source: TSA During 2024, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) intercepted a total of 6,678 firearms at airport security checkpoints, preventing them from getting into the secure areas of the airport and onboard aircraft. Approximately 94% of these firearms were loaded. This total is a minor decrease from the  6,737 firearms stopped in 2023. Throughout 2024, TSA managed its "Prepare, Pack, Declare" public awareness campaign to explain the steps for safely traveling with a firearm. TSA publishes final rule on REAL ID enforcement beginning May 7, 2025

Federal agencies, including TSA, will begin REAL ID enforcement on the deadline—May 7, 2025. Starting on May 7, only state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards that meet the security requirements established by the REAL ID Act will be allowed for official purposes, including boarding commercial aircraft. IATA: Passenger Demand Up 8.1% in November

Biden-Harris Administration Announces More Than $332 Million in Grants from Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to Modernize Airports in 32 States
