US DOT: September 2022 U.S. Airline Traffic Data

Source: US DOT U.S. airlines carried 75.1 million systemwide (domestic and international) scheduled service passengers in September 2022, seasonally-adjusted, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS), up 6.3% from August. BTS reported 65.8 million domestic passengers and 9.3 million international passengers on U.S. airlines flights in September. U.S. airline traffic reports are filed monthly with BTS. In October, LAC remained the region with the most robust recovery in the world

A total of 27.5 million passengers were transported, corresponding to 92% compared to the same month of 2019. 2022 SAF Production Increases 200% – More Production Incentives Needed to Reach Net Zero

Source: IATA The International Air Transport Association (IATA) estimates that Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production will reach at least 300 million liters in 2022—a 200% increase on 2021 production of 100 million liters. More optimistic calculations estimate total production in 2022 could reach 450 million liters. Airlines Cut Losses in 2022; Return to Profit in 2023

Source: IATA The International Air Transport Association (IATA) expects a return to profitability for the global airline industry in 2023 as airlines continue to cut losses stemming from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic to their business in 2022. In 2023, airlines are expected to post a small net profit of $4.7 billion—a 0.6% net profit margin. It is the first profit since 2019 when industry net profits were $26.4 billion (3.1% net profit margin). In 2022, airline net losses are expected to be $6.9 billion (an improvement on the $9.7 billion loss for 2022 in IATA's June outlook).
