  • In 2022, the ACI-LAC Annual Assembly Conference & Exhibition will take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina

The Airports Council International of Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) is holding the ACI-LAC Annual Conference and Exhibition, the main event for the airport market in the region, on October 3 and 4, 2022. This year, the meeting brings together leading authorities, Latin American executives and aviation experts to discuss the sustainable future of airports. Speakers will share experiences on how actions are being implemented to mitigate environmental impacts with the goal of reducing direct carbon emissions from airports to zero by 2050, according to the sectoral pact assumed by the industry, in line with the Paris Agreement and the recommendations of scientists from the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Other topics will be addressed in the context of sustainable development, such as the recovery of the industry after the most critical moment of the Covid-19 pandemic, the incorporation of new technologies, the development of airport businesses and innovations in advanced air mobility, in addition to various issues related to diversity, inclusion and the labor market in the sector.

At the opening of the conference, a panel bringing together the Ministers of Tourism of Argentina, Matías Lammens, and Uruguay, Tabaré Vieira Duarte, will address the challenges and opportunities in the region for sustainable tourism as travel and tourism begins to overheat, following the most critical moments of the Covid-19 pandemic. In another panel, digital influencers will give their views on how social networks have changed the new way of communicating and how the industry can take advantage of this new communication channel.

Also present at the opening of the event will be the director of Corporación América Argentina, Martín Eurnekian, the president of the Board of Directors of ACI-LAC and regional manager of Corporación América, Ezequiel Barrenechea, the general director of ACI Mundo, Luis Felipe de Oliveira, and Rafael Echevarne, General Director of ACI-LAC.

“Latin America and the Caribbean is the region that has recovered the fastest after the pandemic. Moreover, it is impressive to note that, despite the fact that the industry suffered the biggest crisis in history, airports have been responsible and have not lost sight of their commitment to the environment,” said Dr. Rafael Echevarne, Director General of ACI-LAC.

Dr. Echevarne added: “In the aftermath of the pandemic, in addition to concerns about the health of the planet, technology and customer service have become increasingly important issues for airports. These and other relevant topics for the industry are what we will be discussing in detail from October 2-4 in Buenos Aires.”
