Mexican low-cost carrier Viva Aerobus has announced that it will begin scheduled service at Miami International Airport next year when it launches three-weekly flights every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to Monterrey on July 1, 2024, followed by four-weekly flights every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday to Merida starting the next day. The routes will be served by the airline’s A321 aircraft that seats 240 passengers or its A320 planes with 186 seats.

“I greatly look forward to welcoming Viva Aerobus and its daily flights to Miami-Dade County next summer, which will provide our residents and visitors with even more travel options to Mexico. Mexico has been one of MIA’s fastest-growing travel destinations in recent years, and I am excited to see Viva Aerobus add to that growth with its new service to Monterrey and Merida coming soon,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.

Mexico was MIA’s 2nd-largest international market in 2022, responsible for nearly 1.7 million passengers. Monterrey and Merida are both currently served by American Airlines at MIA. Based in Monterrey, Viva Aerobus started operations in 2006 and expects to operate 190 daily flights in 2024.

“We are excited to start flying to new cities in the US as part of our major expansion strategy in this country, encouraging passengers to take advantage of our increased connectivity, low fares, and modern fleet. This new route not only connects individual cities but provides The Magic City passengers with a wide range of connecting flights that link Monterrey and Merida to over 30 key destinations to discover Mexico. It also represents more opportunities for Mexican travelers to enjoy Miami´s natural wonders, museums, and theme parks, serving leisure, VFR, and business markets; thus, boosting local tourism and economy,” said Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus.
