LAX Construction: Extended Runway 24R Closure

Source: ALPA *Not for navigational use* Beginning Saturday, September 9, 2023, Runway 6L/24R at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will be closed for 120 days as Phase 3 of the North Airfield Exit Taxiway (NAET) project continues to move forward. The project will rehabilitate a sizable portion of pavement on Runway 6L/24R, reconstruct the first third of Runway 24L, and most notably construct four new exit taxiways (two for exiting Runway 24R and two for exiting Runway 6L). Construction activities and runway closures will create significant operational challenges for the foreseeable future. Korean Air and Delta hold promotional events to celebrate fifth anniversary of joint venture

Green Fares extended for all SWISS domestic flights

Source: SWISS Only ‘Green Fares’ – which include a price component for offsetting the carbon emissions generated by the customer’s air travel – will be available for SWISS’s domestic air services between Zurich and Geneva. The new Green-Fares-only provision for this route applies solely to point-to-point travel and not to connecting flights. US Air Travel Consumer Report: May 2023 Numbers

Source: US DOT  The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) today released its Air Travel Consumer Report (ATCR) on airline operational data compiled for the month of May 2023 for on-time performance, mishandled baggage, and mishandled wheelchairs and scooters. The ATCR is designed to assist consumers with information on the quality of services provided by airlines. DOT remains committed to ensuring airline passengers are treated fairly and flights operate as scheduled. In May 2023, cancellations were 0.6%, which is significantly lower than the cancellation rate of 2% in May 2022. The FAA Authorizes UPS Flight Forward and uAvionix to Operate Drones Beyond Visual Line of Sight

Source: US FAA The FAA authorized two more companies to operate drones beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS). UPS Flight Forward with its Matternet M2 can conduct power line and pipeline inspections and uAvionix with its Rapace can use the Vantis Network to test its detect and avoid technology. On August 24 the agency authorized Phoenix Air Unmanned to operate SwissDrones SVO 50 V2 drones beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) for aerial work, aerial photography, survey and powerline and pipeline patrol and inspection. The FAA issued the approvals after asking for public input on four BVLOS requests. The agency is reviewing one additional request.
