Source: MIA Miami International Airport is expecting another busy winter holiday travel season this year, with 2.5 million passengers projected from December 21 to January 6 (Three Kings Day), for a 1.5% increase over its record-breaking period in 2021. A daily average of 151,000 travelers is expected over the 17-day travel period, which is 10,000 more travelers per day than the airport's average in November. MIA's busiest travel days are expected to be the Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday before Christmas Day, the Friday before New Year's Day, and the Thursday and Friday after New Year's Day, when the airport projects more than 157,000 passengers on each day. New routes and two new airlines to Miami A busy month of new flights at Miami International Airport kicked off on December 8, when Avianca launched three weekly flights to Bucaramanga, Colombia, and four weekly flights to Pereira, Colombia from MIA, followed by the airline beginning two weekly Santa Marta-Miami flights on December 10. Bucaramanga and Santa Marta mark two new routes for MIA and bring the airport's total number of nonstop destinations in Colombia to nine – the most in its history. While the Bucaramanga and Santa Marta routes are served exclusively by Avianca at MIA, the Miami-Pereira route is also served by American Airlines. Source: MIA KBRA, S&P and Moody's reward airport for strong pandemic rebound In recognition of Miami International Airport's "exceptionally strong recovery," Kroll Bond Rating Agency, LLC (KBRA) recently upgraded its long-term rating of Miami-Dade County's Aviation Revenue Bonds from A+ to AA-.
