U.S. Scheduled Passenger Airlines Employ 0.7% More Employees in September 2021 than in August, Still 8.8% Fewer than Pre-Pandemic September 2019

Source: US DOT The 24 U.S. scheduled passenger airlines employed 0.7% more full-time equivalents (FTEs) in September 2021 than in August 2021, but still employed 8.8% fewer than in pre-pandemic September 2019. The September total number of FTEs (410,836) was up 2,871 from August (407,965) and down 39,618 from September 2019 (450,454). In September 2021, the airlines employed the lowest FTE total for the month of September since 2015 (397,326). The September uptick resulted in part from increases of 2,343 FTEs at Delta Airlines and 1,150 at United Airlines. U.S. Airlines Carry 58.4 Million Passengers in September 2021 (Preliminary), Still Down 20% from Pre-Pandemic September 2019

Source: US DOT   U.S. airlines carried 58.4 million passengers in September 2021 (preliminary), compared to 25.1 million passengers in September 2020 according to data filed with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) by 20 airlines that carry more than 90% of passengers. The 133% increase was the smallest year-over-year growth since March (see Figure 2). Passengers Want to Use Biometrics to Speed up Processes and Eliminate Queuing Post Pandemic

Source: IATA The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced the results of its 2021 Global Passenger Survey (GPS), which delivered two main conclusions: 1. IATA Appoints Chief Economist

Source: IATA The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that Marie Owens Thomsen will join the Association as its Chief Economist effective 4 January 2022. Owens Thomsen will come from Banque Lombard Odier, where she has served as Head of Global Trends and Sustainability since 2020. Prior to that she was the long-time Global Head of Investment Intelligence (2011-2020) at Indosuez Wealth Management. Additionally, she has served in Chief Economist and related roles for Merrill Lynch, Dresdner Kleinwort Benson and HSBC.
